The report indicates that Tottenham Hotspur, having scouted De Winter extensively last season, is now most likely to sign him

Tottenham Hotspur, a prominent name in Premier League football, has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to sign Belgian international and versatile Serie A defender, Koni de Winter. This development comes after Spurs first expressed interest in De Winter several months ago.

Spurs fans have been growing increasingly impatient over recent weeks due to the club's lack of significant moves this summer at the onset of Thomas Frank's era. The only signing so far this window has been Mathys Tel. However, with pre-season fast approaching, sources suggest that we can expect two or three more signings from Spurs over the next few weeks.

One such potential signing is Genoa defender Koni de Winter. Reports dating back to March indicated that Tottenham had enquired about De Winter and it now appears they may soon make advances towards securing his services.

Tottenham take pole position for De Winter signing

Last month, GiveMeSport reported that several Premier League clubs had shown interest in De Winter. However, according to a new report by Corriere dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham has moved ahead of other interested parties and is now leading the race for this versatile centre-back.

The report further suggests that Tottenham Hotspur scouted De Winter multiple times last season and are currently best positioned to secure a deal for him. Crystal Palace was initially interested in acquiring De Winter earlier this summer but it seems Thomas Frank’s men have taken pole position with Genoa expected to demand €30m (£25.6m) for their player.

Why signing De Winter makes sense for Spurs

Thomas Frank’s tactical flexibility requires players who can adapt effectively across different roles on pitch - something which makes Koni de Winters an ideal fit for his team setup at Spurs. De Winters' versatility allows him play on either side of central defence, at right-back, and he has even been used as a number six. His profile is somewhat similar to Archie Gray's but with more experience.

Given the demanding nature of both the Premier League and Champions League, Frank needs a large squad to cope with these rigours. De Winter could prove to be an invaluable addition given his ability to cover multiple positions on the field.

Securing Koni de Winter's signature would not only bolster Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive options but also provide much-needed versatility in their squad. As we await further developments in this transfer saga, one thing is clear - Spurs fans have something exciting to look forward to this summer.
