Pakistan's digital streaming platform, Tapmad, has recently acquired the exclusive digital and television broadcasting rights for the upcoming FIFA World Cup men's flagship tournament. This move marks a significant milestone for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts in Pakistan.
Under this agreement, Tapmad will stream all 104 matches live on its digital platform. This year’s edition is being jointly hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada between June 11 and July 19. The tournament will feature an expanded field of 48 national teams.
Yassir Pasha, CEO of Tapmad, said:
“This is a defining moment not just for Tapmad, but for how football will be experienced in Pakistan. As the World Cup expands, our role is to ensure that access keeps pace with that scale. We are focused on delivering an experience that is seamless and uninterrupted.”
In addition to live streaming, Tapmad plans to introduce interactive features that promise an immersive viewing experience. These include live match timelines, detailed lineups, comprehensive statistics, minute-by-minute updates and multi-stream split-screen viewing on the TV app. The multi-stream split-screen feature allows viewers to watch multiple matches simultaneously - a boon for die-hard soccer fans who don't want to miss any action.
FIFA strikes late rights deals across multiple regions
In recent weeks leading up to the tournament, FIFA has secured several late rights deals across various regions. AzamTV from Tanzania snapped up rights in eight East African markets while Ghana's government acquired rights to expand World Cup coverage within its borders. African sports media platform SportyTV also secured pay-TV rights for South Africa last month. In Malaysia, free-to-air broadcaster RTM and IPTV service Unifi TV bagged broadcast rights with further tie-ups announced with Television Jamaica and Vietnam Television in their respective markets.
Despite these successful negotiations globally, FIFA is yet to sign broadcast deals with China and India - two of the world's most populous nations where soccer enjoys immense popularity. A deadlock persists in negotiations with Reliance-Disney heavyweight media group regarding broadcast rights in India. Meanwhile, no official decision has been made over coverage in China.
World soccer’s governing body has agreed on broadcast deals in over 175 territories globally for the tournament, demonstrating the universal appeal and reach of this prestigious event. Tapmad's acquisition of exclusive streaming rights for the FIFA World Cup is a significant development for sports fans and betting enthusiasts in Pakistan. With interactive features to enhance viewer experience and live streaming of all matches, this year's World Cup promises to be an exciting event for all involved.
