Sport TV also have retained rights for Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana

Portuguese sports broadcaster, Sport TV, has announced the continuation of its long-standing relationship with Italy's top-tier Serie A soccer competition. The broadcaster has secured the rights to air Serie A matches in Portugal through to the end of the 2026-27 season.

Sport TV has been broadcasting Serie A games, along with its Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana competitions since 2015. The latest deal will extend this coverage to over a decade in length. This follows their last renewal which took place in 2021.

The league holds significant appeal for Portuguese viewers due to several top stars from Portugal playing in it. Notable players include AC Milan’s Rafael Leão who also plays for Portugal’s national team and iconic Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo who has graced the league as well.

SportTV have created a monopoly in football broadcasting

As it stands, Sport TV is currently enjoying a near monopolistic hold on soccer broadcasting within Portugal. It is also noteworthy that they are exclusive broadcasters for Primeira Liga matches (except for SL Benfica home matches), which is Portugal’s domestic soccer competition.

Sport TV, chief executive Nuno Ferreira Pires, said:

“Renewing the broadcasting rights of Serie A reaffirms our commitment to providing the Portuguese with the best of world football. We are committed and excited to ensure that our viewers continue to closely follow all the excitement and passion that only Italian football can offer.”

In addition, Sport TV holds broadcast rights for several international tournaments including FIFA World Cup, Copa America, UEFA Nations League as well as other leagues such as Netherlands’ Eredivisie, England’s FA Cup and League Cup, Turkey’s Super Lig and Saudi Pro League among others.

Sport TV also recently snapped UEFA Champions League

In October 2023, Sport TV announced its return as a partner of the UEFA Champions League matches. They will be broadcasting a selection of top-tier games from the pan-European competition from 2024-25 through to 2026-27. However, DAZN will remain the competition’s primary broadcaster in Portugal.

This latest deal further cements Sport TV's position as a leading sports broadcaster in Portugal and ensures that Portuguese football fans can continue to enjoy world-class football action for years to come.
