After a seven-year hiatus, Loftus-Cheek returned to international duty against Wales in October under Thomas Tuchel

England and AC Milan midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, is set to be out of action for approximately eight weeks following a successful surgery on his broken jaw. The 30-year-old player suffered significant facial trauma during AC Milan's recent match against Parma.

Loftus-Cheek was carried off the field on a stretcher during AC Milan's 1-0 defeat by Parma last Sunday. The unfortunate incident occurred when he collided with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi while challenging for a cross early in the Serie A game. Following this, his head and neck were put in a brace before he was taken off.

AC Milan confirmed that Loftus-Cheek had sustained "a fracture of the alveolar process of the jaw," which led to immediate hospitalization and subsequent surgery.

Post-Surgery update from Loftus-Cheek

After being discharged from hospital post-surgery, Loftus-Cheek took to Instagram to share an update with his fans. He expressed gratitude towards medical staff who supported him throughout this ordeal with utmost professionalism and care.

He wrote: "A heartfelt thanks to all the medical staff who supported me over these past hours with professionalism and care." He also thanked his fans for their messages of love and support as well as his teammates, referring them as family.

The timing of this injury could potentially impact Loftus-Cheek's chances of making it into England squad for the upcoming World Cup starting in June. After seven years away from international duty, he made a comeback against Wales in October under manager Thomas Tuchel’s guidance.

Despite this setback, AC Milan remains second in Serie A table standings but now trails rivals Inter Milan by 10 points. Inter Milan secured their seventh successive league win after defeating Lecce 2-0 last Saturday. Meanwhile, Parma's victory over AC Milan, courtesy of Mariano Troilo's 80th-minute goal, has left them in the 12th position in the table. Loftus-Cheek’s injury is a significant blow to both AC Milan and potentially England’s World Cup squad. Fans and teammates alike will be eagerly awaiting his recovery and return to the pitch.
