Real Madrid, the renowned LaLiga side, has once again topped the list of the world's most valuable football teams. This marks their fourth consecutive year at the top, with a staggering valuation of $6.75 billion, according to business magazine Forbes.
The Spanish club made history by becoming the first football club to generate a billion dollars in revenue in a single year. They posted an impressive record of $1.13 billion for the 2023-24 season, as reported by Forbes.
This achievement not only sets them apart in football but also places them as only the second sports team ever to hit this 10-figure threshold. The first was NFL side Dallas Cowboys. Deloitte confirmed earlier this year that Real Madrid is indeed the first football team to register €1 billion ($1.04 billion) in revenue within one season.
Manchester United follow close behind
Despite a less than stellar performance during their Premier League campaign where they finished eighth, England's Manchester United secured second place on Forbes' list with an impressive valuation of $6.6 billion after generating $834 million in revenue for 2023-24 season.
Following closely behind are Real’s LaLiga rivals Barcelona who hold third place with a value of $5.65 billion while Liverpool and Manchester City round out fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Forbes also highlighted six Premier League clubs among its top ten most valuable teams including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea who joined Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain on this prestigious list.
Value of teams continues to rise
According to Forbes' report: "Together, the 30 most valuable soccer teams are worth more than $72 billion." This equates to an average value per team of approximately $2.4 billion, marking a 5% increase from the previous year's record of $2.26 billion.
This continued growth in value underscores the immense popularity and financial power of football as a sport, and its appeal to sports fans and sports betting fans alike. The figures also highlight the significant role these clubs play in their respective economies, contributing significantly to revenue generation.
Real Madrid continues to set the pace in terms of financial performance among football clubs worldwide. However, with other teams not far behind and showing strong financial growth themselves, it will be interesting to see how this list evolves over time.
