The world's largest media deal belongs to the NFL. Not even Football leagues nor NBA comes anywhere near their contract figures. Their big audience numbers are behind their commercial success, and we have recently found another reason why the NFL is one of the greatest competitions in the world.
NFL matches often set viewership milestones, but the recent draft round in Kansas City has set new standards. According to the league, this year's Draft averaged 11.4 million viewers across TV and digital platforms, which is higher than last year's 10.3 million.
A considerable jump in the total audience was also seen from 32.8 million to 34.2 million compared to last year. The draft was aired on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes.
NFL Spokesperson, Brian McCarthy reflected on this record-breaking draft and thanked the Kansas City Sports Commission for their cooperation saying:
“The sights and smells of the Kansas City Draft will forever be remembered by the fans in attendance, but also by those of us in the league office who are so thankful to the members of the local community for their hard work and hospitality.
“The success of the 2023 Draft was a testament to the collaboration and cooperation of thousands of people, led by the Chiefs, Kathy Nelson and the Kansas City Sports Commission, sponsors and local law enforcement officials and organizers. Kansas City took advantage of what has become one of the most-anticipated events of the year and the most-watched sporting event of the week and showcased not only its planning capabilities, but its people and passion.”
The draft also recorded 312K attendance
Fans watching the NFL draft from home were not the only ones who became engrossed in the action. However, this year's Draft was witnessed by record numbers of fans. This year's draft recorded 312,000 attendance across all three days.
As far as draft results are concerned, quarterbacks dominated the top four picks. Three of them went to quarterbacks.
