Manchester United has confirmed the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for an initial 21m euros (£18.1m), plus add-ons. This move concludes United's interest in Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Lammens, aged 23, is en route to Manchester to sign a five-year contract with the Old Trafford club. The decision comes as part of United's strategy to address their goalkeeping issues following Altay Bayindir's errors in the league and Andre Onana's fault for a goal during their EFL Cup exit against League Two side Grimsby.
Ruben Amorim, head coach of Manchester United, said:
"I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment,"
United sources have expressed optimism about Lammens' potential, viewing him as an exciting young talent with a promising future ahead.
Who is Senne Lammens?
Senne Lammens joined Antwerp on a free transfer from Club Brugge in 2023 and has since made 64 appearances for Antwerp. His performance contributed significantly towards winning the Belgian Super Cup that same year.
Despite being yet to make an appearance for Belgium’s senior team, he received his first call-up in March 2025 and is considered as Thibaut Courtois' long-term replacement. During last season alone, Lammens made 30 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and kept seven clean sheets - demonstrating his potential value on international grounds.
Before finalizing his deal with Manchester United, he was left out of back-to-back games against KV Mechelen and KVC Westerlo by Antwerp squad management - possibly hinting at this significant move.
