Manchester United are reportedly on the brink of signing Atalanta midfielder, Ederson. The deal, which is believed to be worth around £35m, would mark Michael Carrick’s first signing as permanent boss.
According to talkSPORT, the parties are in advanced talks and are confident that a deal will soon be reached. Despite reports from Italy suggesting a price tag as high as £43 million for the Brazilian player, it's understood that United aims to secure the deal significantly below this figure and closer to the £35m mark.
Ederson has been on United's radar since 2024 and with just one year left on his Atalanta contract, he has already agreed terms on a five-year contract with Manchester United.
Stellar career at Atalanta
The 26-year-old midfielder has made an impressive 180 appearances for Atalanta. He was also part of their victorious Europa League campaign in 2023/24. However, amid links with Manchester United, head coach Raffaele Palladino chose not to play him in their final Serie A match of the season.
Ederson's arrival would likely signal the start of a new era under Michael Carrick who returned to Old Trafford in January following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal. Carrick signed a deal until the end of 2025/26 season and managed to guide United back into Champions League football by finishing third in Premier League last season.
United is looking forward to filling Casemiro’s void who leaves this summer and looks set for Inter Miami.
Competition from rivals
Interestingly enough, talkSPORT reported last week that rivals Manchester City have also scouted Ederson ahead of summer window but they seem more focused on Elliot Anderson - Nottingham Forest's star who is believed to be worth as much as the £105m Arsenal paid for Declan Rice.
In addition to Ederson, United also has its sights set on Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton. As the summer transfer window approaches, fans will be eagerly watching to see how these potential deals unfold.
If Manchester United successfully signs Ederson, it could mark a significant step in their rebuilding process under Michael Carrick’s leadership. The deal would not only bring a talented midfielder into their ranks but also signal the club's intent for future success.
