Iraola intends to bring Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper, his colleagues from Bournemouth, to join his coaching team at Anfield

Liverpool Football Club have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola, marking the beginning of a new era following the dismissal of Arne Slot.

Iraola, who recently left Bournemouth at the end of the season, is now set to take over as head coach at Anfield. The Athletic reports that he will sign a two-year deal, continuing his preference for short-term contracts that he's maintained throughout his coaching career.

The 43-year-old Spaniard has previously coached Cypriot side AEK Larnaca and Spanish teams Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano before joining Bournemouth. His appointment is expected to be formally announced later this week.

Building a strong coaching team

In addition to taking on the head coach role himself, Iraola plans to bring Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper from Bournemouth as part of his coaching staff at Anfield. However, BBC Sport reports that there has been no formal contact yet from either Elphick or Cooper regarding their future roles.

Elphick, in particular, is an interesting prospect for Liverpool fans given his lifelong support for the Reds. Despite receiving no official contact yet from Liverpool about joining their ranks, it's understood that he would be interested in such an opportunity. Liverpool aims to make this appointment swiftly and strategically; they are seeking a manager who aligns with their preferred playing style - delivering aggressive football on the front foot. This approach was instrumental in securing them last year's Premier League title under former coach Arne Slot.

Richard Hughes, Liverpool's sporting director leading this hiring process had previously worked with Iraola during their time together at Bournemouth which could potentially facilitate smoother transitions within team dynamics under new leadership. Despite sacking Slot just one year after guiding them to the Premier League title, Liverpool is looking forward to a fresh start under Iraola's leadership. The club and its fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement and the exciting new chapter it promises for Liverpool Football Club.
