Carragher believes that not competing for this season's title is tolerable, but failure to qualify for the Champions League could result in Slot's dismissal

Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool player and current football pundit, has recently voiced his concerns about the future of Arne Slot as manager of Liverpool Football Club. Despite a 13-game unbeaten run that was recently broken by Bournemouth, fans' patience with Slot is wearing thin. This article will delve into Carragher's predictions and fears for Liverpool under Slot's management.

Liverpool fans have reacted strongly to their team’s loss against Bournemouth, despite it being the end of an impressive 13-game unbeaten run. This reaction paints a different picture than what the statistics suggest - while on paper it may seem like a successful stretch for Liverpool, in reality, it hasn't felt like one at all.

The recent criticism directed towards Arne Slot has led to increased speculation about Xabi Alonso potentially replacing him as manager. Even Jamie Carragher who has been supportive of the Dutchman throughout much of this season seems to be reaching his limit.

Jamie Carragher’s condition for sacking Arne Slot

Carragher discussed his views on Monday Night Football alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. He expressed that he could tolerate not challenging for the title this season given its seeming unattainability now. However, he drew a line when it came to missing out on Champions League qualification.

Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend, said:

“When you start seeing where Liverpool could actually finish outside the Champions League positions, because I really fear for them, because as I said, I don’t think this team is equipped for Premier League football.

“Once you start fearing Champions League qualification for next season, that’s when I think we’ve got a completely different proposition, where we’re talking about the manager’s job. That, for me, is completely different. If you don’t qualify for the Champions League, having won the league the season before and spent as much as Liverpool did, I don’t think you’ve got a leg to stand on.”

Carragher believes that if there is a realistic danger of missing out on Champions League qualification then that would be cause enough for concern regarding Slot’s position as manager.

However, he also questioned when exactly would they know if they were headed in this direction. If Liverpool were to crash out of the Champions League in a similar fashion to last season, it could potentially drain all hope from the season and expedite Slot's departure.

While some fans might accept a failed season as an opportunity for managerial change, most would prefer a turnaround in form and a strong end to the campaign. The majority of Liverpool supporters are hoping for improvement under Slot's leadership rather than his dismissal. While Arne Slot is facing increasing criticism and speculation about his future at Liverpool, Jamie Carragher has outlined that failing to qualify for the Champions League could be the final straw. However, it remains to be seen whether this will indeed be the case or if there will be a turnaround in fortunes for both Slot and Liverpool.
