Carragher accuses Rosenior's "obsession" with central play for Jorgensen's error and Chelsea's loss against PSG

Jamie Carragher, a renowned football analyst and former player, has recently accused Liam Rosenior of having an "obsession" that is negatively impacting Chelsea. According to Carragher, this obsession is partly responsible for the error made by Filip Jorgensen in the recent match against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Chelsea suffered a heavy 5-2 defeat against PSG on Wednesday evening. The Blues were level at 2-2 until just 15 minutes before the end of the game when they imploded. This leaves them with a daunting task of overturning a three-goal deficit in Tuesday evening's second leg.

Rosenior made a bold decision to start Jorgensen as goalkeeper in this crucial match. Unfortunately, it backfired spectacularly when Jorgensen made an error leading to Chelsea going down 3-2. Post-match, Jorgensen was visibly upset and chose not to applaud the travelling fans - an action defended by Rosenior.

Carragher’s take on goalkeeper situation

Carragher strongly believes that until Chelsea addresses their goalkeeper situation, they won't be able to progress further. He argues that Rosenior's indecisiveness about who between Jorgensen or Robert Sanchez is number one is causing instability within the team.

Jamie Carragher, Liverpool legend, said:

“So when you play centrally, as Chelsea and Rosenior like to do, and the opposition know that you like to do, look, they’re high out of the box, he [Jorgensen] plays a really good pass,”

“But then, they go forward, a great attack, so he was part of a lot of good play from Chelsea throughout a lot of the game. And that’s what he wants from his goalkeepers. But you’ve got to remember, the two passes and the good passes were central, but they were on his right foot. He’s now in a situation where, don’t forget it’s 2-2, he can go left, he can go right. But no, there’s an obsession with going through the centre.”

Furthermore, he accuses Rosenior of having an “obsession” with playing through the middle which he believes led to Jorgensen’s mistake and ultimately hurt Chelsea during their game against PSG.

Central play obsession

Carragher insists that Rosenior's fixation on central play is detrimental for The Blues' performance. He attributes this tactical approach as one of the reasons behind Jorgenson’s costly mistake during their recent match.

Jamie Carragher added:

“So, he is on his left foot. He’s not on his right foot, so he’s going to be weaker on that pass,” he added.

“He can’t push it in as hard. So, is he trying to play into central midfield? Or is he waiting for Cole Palmer there? It’s just so narrow to try to get it between players, and it’s a huge mistake.”

While Rosenior's tactics may have been successful in the past, Carragher suggests that it might be time for a change. The recent defeat against PSG has highlighted potential issues within Chelsea's strategy and goalkeeper situation that need to be addressed if they hope to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
