Throughout his career, Milner secured three Premier League titles; two with Manchester City (2012 & 2014) and one with Liverpool (2020)

Former England midfielder and record-holder, James Milner, has announced his retirement after an illustrious 24-year career in the Premier League. The versatile player, who spent his last three seasons with Brighton, leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike.

James Milner, Former Liverpool player, said:

"I've been fortunate enough to experience some unforgettable moments, from fighting for survival to winning trophies, playing in Europe, and representing my country at two European Championships and two World Cups,"

"But more than anything, it's the people and friendships I've made throughout the game that I'll cherish forever."

Milner's journey in England's top flight football was nothing short of remarkable. He played for six teams throughout his career and broke the record for most Premier League appearances in February. His journey began with Leeds United where he made his debut at just 16 years old in November 2002. At the time, he was the second-youngest player to grace the Premier League.

The following month saw him become the youngest player to score a goal in this prestigious league - a record now held by Max Dowman and James Vaughan.

Triumphs & titles

Over his long-standing career, Milner won three coveted Premier League titles - two with Manchester City (2012 & 2014) and one with Liverpool (2020). He also helped Liverpool clinch victory in the Champions League final back in 2019.

In addition to these club successes, Milner had an impressive run on an international level as well. Making his England debut while playing for Aston Villa back in 2009, he ended up earning himself a total of 61 caps over his international career.

James Milner added:

"From making my debut for Leeds United, who I supported growing up, at the age of 16 and becoming the Premier League's youngest scorer, I could never have dreamed of the journey I've been on, right through to not being able to lift my foot last year and then coming back to be part of Brighton qualifying for Europe for the second time in their history at the age of 40,"

Despite facing significant challenges such as missing most of the season due to injury during 2024-25 season; Milner demonstrated resilience by playing twenty-two games across all competitions during the subsequent season (2025-26). This period marked him making his final appearance on Brighton's last game of that season – marking it as his staggering 658th appearance!

From Leeds to Anfield

After spending two years with Leeds, Milner moved to Newcastle United in 2004 following Leeds' relegation to the Championship. He then joined Aston Villa in 2008 and Manchester City in 2010, where he played a crucial role in securing their first two Premier League titles.

In 2015, Milner transferred to Liverpool where he spent eight seasons and made an impressive tally of 332 appearances. During his time at Anfield, he scored a total of 26 goals. His contributions were instrumental in helping the Reds win their first league title since 1990. James Milner's retirement marks the end of an era for English football. His career has been marked by remarkable achievements including lifting both the FA Cup and League Cup with Liverpool and City respectively.

His journey from being one of the youngest players to make his mark on Premier League history to becoming one of its most celebrated veterans is truly inspiring for sports fans around the world. As we bid farewell to this legend, we celebrate his contribution to football and look forward to seeing what new records future generations will set.
