Cricket’s biggest festival, the Indian Premier League is just around the corner and the fans are eagerly waiting for the marquee event.
The IPL, which will enter its 16th season since being founded in 2007 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, will begin on March 31. The franchise-based league has managed to grow to become immensely popular in the United Kingdom as well and so we will look at where to watch the best T20 league in the World for viewers in the UK and Ireland.
Where to watch the IPL?
Sky Sports Cricket has retained the telecasting rights for the cash-rich league and so Sky will be covering the IPL in the UK and Ireland.
Viewers will also be able to stream the tournament through Viacom18.
When is the IPL?
The IPL starts on March 31 and the matches will begin at 3:00 PM UK time (7:00 PM local time) with double headers scheduled for every Sunday from April 18 onwards. The earlier game in the case of a Sunday doubleheader will begin at 11:00 AM UK time (3:30 PM local time).
There are games scheduled for every single day leading up to the final with the occasional breaks in the later stages of the tournament.
The first game will be between the defending champions Gujarat Titans and the Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The tournament opener will begin at 3:00 PM UK time (7:30 PM local time) with the coin toss scheduled for a half-hour before the first ball is bowled.
With the new rules in place such as the Impact substitution and the opportunity for teams to announce their XI after the toss, this season of the IPL could be the best ever, so far, and one of its very kind.
