Globo’s latest deal will include rights for women's top-tier league, under-20 and under-17 age-group youth tournaments

Brazilian broadcasting giant, Globo, has renewed its rights agreement with the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), ensuring continued coverage of top-tier men’s and women’s soccer competitions.

The renewed package includes rights to broadcast the Supercopa do Brasil, Brasileirão Feminino - the women's top-tier league, under-20 and under-17 age-group youth tournaments, as well as friendlies of the Brazilian women’s national team. These games will be aired across TV Globo commercial network and Sportv pay-TV network.

This renewal builds on a previous rights deal struck between Globo and CBF in January 2022. As part of this deal, Globo has already aired the Supercopa do Brasil between March 7th and 15th.

Focus on women's competitions

A significant portion of this agreement is dedicated to the coverage of women's competitions. This includes broadcasting friendlies played by the Brazilian women’s national team as they prepare for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. As part of this arrangement, Sportv will have exclusive rights to cover twelve games, while Globo will broadcast four.

CBF president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, said:

“We are delighted to expand our partnership with Globo, which is part of the CBF’s strategy to further grow women’s football in the country. The visibility of Globo’s screens will also help to broadly transform the clubs and the women’s football product as a whole.”

In addition, the deal also involves airing ten matches from Brasileirão Feminino starting from the quarterfinals on TV Globo. Meanwhile, SportV is set to cover forty-four matches throughout this competition, ensuring comprehensive coverage for fans and supporters alike. Globo has been airing Brasileirão Feminino matches since 2022. The package also includes coverage of Brazilian Women’s Football Championship club competition on SporTV along with under-20 and under-17 age-group youth tournaments totaling sixty-one games per season.

Brazil hosting FIFA Women's World Cup

In May 2024, Brazil was announced as host for the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup in 2027. This makes it South America's first country to stage such an event. Twelve venues are set to be used for the tournament, which will include thirty-two teams.

Globo has a history of supporting women's soccer. The broadcaster previously held rights to air the 2023 Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and the 2019 edition staged in France.

This renewed agreement between Globo and CBF is a testament to their commitment towards promoting women's soccer in Brazil. It ensures that fans have access to top-tier competitions while also providing exposure for up-and-coming talent in youth tournaments.
