DAZN Rise will debut on March 16 in Germany and Austria, becoming the first stand-alone channel for women’s sports in the two countries.
Thanks to international sports streaming service DAZN, the European nations will soon have access to the innovative free ad-supported streaming (FAST) channel.
Set to launch just before the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League later this month, DAZN Rise will show live matches and highlights from the UWCL, in addition to Spain’s Liga F, France’s Division 1 Feminine and Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga.
DAZN Rise will aim to feature some of the best female football pundits to accompany their coverage, focusing on both top-level sport and high-quality analysis.
The new channel will also screen action from the EHF Champions League and EHF European League handball tournaments, as well as the LPGA Tour and field hockey.
On top of that, viewers will be treated to groundbreaking documentaries from the world of women’s sport, including The Spark Within, a film about snowboarding superstar Anna Gasser, courtesy of Red Bull.
According to research outfit Omdia, just 9% of FAST channels in the United States are sports channels, while only one – The Women’s Sports Network – is dedicated to women’s sport.
Omdia's senior research director, Maria Rua Aguete, said:
“After many years where Women’s Sports were generally supported from a public service perspective, there is now the realisation from commercial operators that the demand in women in sports is growing and the rights values are still really low – it’s the perfect time to invest in women’s sports rights.”
Following the launch of DAZN Rise on March 16, the channel will feature two UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final ties, covering Bayern Munich vs Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain vs Wolfsburg between March 21 and March 30.
Showing action from football, golf, handball, hockey and many other sports, DAZN Rise is set to be Europe’s go-to FAST channel for women’s sport.
