Real Betis are keen to reunite with their former midfield star

Tottenham Hotspur is preparing for the upcoming summer transfer window, with plans to offload surplus squad players who do not fit into manager Ange Postecoglou’s strategy. Among those potentially on the chopping block is Argentine international, Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso has reportedly expressed a desire to leave North London due to his limited playing time during the current campaign. His former club, Real Betis, has emerged as a potential destination for his return.

Spanish news outlet reports that Real Betis sporting director, Manu Fajardo, has openly expressed interest in re-signing Lo Celso.

Real Betis sporting director, Manu Fajardo, said:

“Giovani is a player who has already shown his worth here, who continues to do so when he goes with the Argentina national team and who is also complementary to Nabil Fekir. Being able to opt for players like Lo Celso or similar profiles does not have to imply the departure of Nabil.”

Director expresses public Interest in re-signing Lo Celso

Fajardo praised Lo Celso's previous impact at Betis and his continued success with the Argentina national team as key reasons behind their pursuit. He clarified that pursuing players like Lo Celso would not necessarily mean the departure of other key players such as Fekir; instead suggesting they could complement each other effectively within the team’s structure.

However, securing regular playing time at Spurs this season has been a struggle for Lo Celso. He featured in just 17 Premier League games and accumulated minimal minutes on the pitch.

Complicating matters further is his injury history which includes hamstring and muscle injuries that sidelined him for 11 games this season. Tottenham initially secured him on loan from Real Betis in summer 2019 with a €16 million loan fee before making it permanent in January of next year by paying an additional transfer fee of €32 million. His potential departure could serve as an opportunity for Spurs to bolster their transfer funds ahead of summer window.

Many clubs in line for the Argentine magician

Betis are not the only club linked with Lo Celso. Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen on signing him, with recent reports suggesting that Diego Simeone is a fan of the player and willing to offer £17 million for him.

While Lo Celso's future at Spurs remains uncertain, it is clear that his skills and experience have attracted interest from several clubs. Whether he stays or goes could significantly impact both Tottenham's strategy and their finances in the upcoming transfer window.
