British free-to-air network secures sub-licensing agreement with pay-TV giant Sky Sports

In a significant development for cricket fans, Channel 5 has announced that it will air daily highlights from the upcoming Men's Cricket World Cup. The free-to-air broadcaster has partnered with Sky Sports, the UK rights holder, to bring this exciting coverage to viewers.

The partnership between Channel 5 and Sky Sports will allow the broadcaster to show one-hour highlights programmes at 7pm for England games. The timings for other matches are yet to be confirmed. The tournament is scheduled to run from 5th October until 19th November.

Following the linear broadcast, the highlights will be available on My5, Channel 5's on-demand service. This ensures that fans who miss the live broadcast can catch up on the action at their convenience.

Commissioning Editor at Channel 5 & Paramount+, Federico Ruiz, said:

“Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for one of the most hotly anticipated sporting events this Autumn. With England going into battle to retain their title, our World Cup coverage will have fans across the country on the edge of their seats so clear your diary and tune in.”

Bryan Henderson, Director of Cricket at Sky Sports, said:

“It’s been a brilliant summer of cricket with record-breaking viewership figures across the Men’s and Women’s Ashes as well as attendance records at The Hundred, so this competition represents a huge opportunity to capitalise on newer fans to the sport. As the home of cricket in the UK and Ireland, we’re committed to delivering the very best coverage and analysis of the Men’s Cricket World Cup, which we’re delighted to do so alongside Channel 5.”

Sky Sports will also air highlights shows on its own pay-TV channels. Additionally, Sky Media will be handling advertising sales for Channel 5, further strengthening the partnership between the two broadcasters.

Channel 5 promises excellent coverage of the tournament

Channel 5's coverage promises to be comprehensive, with insights from some of the world's most high-profile cricket players, both past and present. A total of 48 programmes will be aired during the tournament, providing fans with in-depth analysis and commentary.

This marks the first time Channel 5 has shown cricket since losing the rights to England highlights to the BBC in 2019. The return of cricket to Channel 5 is a significant milestone for the broadcaster and a treat for cricket fans.

England ready to defend their World Cup crown

England enter the competition as the defending champions, adding an extra layer of excitement to the tournament. The competition follows a summer that saw record viewing figures for the men's and women's Ashes series.

The combination of England's title defence and the high viewership figures from the summer suggests that the upcoming World Cup could attract a large audience.

The partnership between Channel 5 and Sky Sports to broadcast highlights from the Men's Cricket World Cup is a significant development for cricket fans. With comprehensive coverage, expert insights, and the convenience of on-demand viewing, fans can look forward to an exciting and engaging tournament.
