The BBF has agreed a deal with Norwegian firm Joymo to develop a direct-to-consumer service for fans

The British Basketball Federation (BBF), with the help of Norwegian developers Joymo, is set to create and release a DTC (direct-to-consumer) streaming platform called GB Basketball TV.

The streaming platform will give access to live match streams, highlights, and short and long-form video features available on-demand or live. The launch of the new service coincides with the Women's EuroBasket 2023 which will take place from June 15-25.

It is also worth noting that Joymo secured UK rights from FIBA which makes GB Basketball TV the only place where you can watch Great Britain U20s, U18s as well as U16s play in the FIBA European Youth Championships later this summer.

Moreover, there are various pay-per-view options available including a Summer Pass that offers complete coverage of all Team GB matches at Women’s EuroBasket 2023 and three age group levels at FIBA European Youth Championships - around 45 games - which costs £19.99.

Additionally, all matches from FIBA's European Youth Championship will be shown live on Courtside 1891, the official live-streaming home of FIBA's major events. FIBA European Youth Championship matches will also be broadcast on YouTube, except for Team GB matches.

Furthermore, viewers can spot the GB Basketball TV logo on the shirts of women's basketball team members since Joymo is an official partner besides being the title sponsor.

Chris Grant, Chair of the British Basketball Federation, said:

“This is a very important milestone in the development of British Basketball.  The launch of GB Basketball TV, and the provision of more opportunities to watch our amazing players compete at all levels, are key pillars in our strategy to grow the game.

“Our partnership with Joymo creates a platform to deliver more coverage in an easily accessible way. Having a single online destination for all our content will enable us to introduce more people to the sport and give our fanbase more of what they want.”

Meanwhile, Hannah Griffiths, VP of Content Acquisition & Partnerships at Joymo said:

“We are thrilled to be working with British Basketball to power their streaming ambitions and broader digital strategy. This new digital home of the sport can deliver to British Basketball’s most important stakeholders: fans, participants, and commercial partners.

“This is an alliance of great strategic importance for Joymo, showcasing the strength of our proposition as both a platform provider and rights acquisition partner.”

The creation of GB Basketball TV further cements the idea that sports organizations are now turning to digital platforms for new opportunities.

Through Joymo, British basketball has given fans a one-stop-shop to stream games and highlights at their convenience without having to switch from one platform or another.

The partnership also gives viewers an easier way to watch more matches making it accessible anytime and anywhere thus attracting a bigger audience by giving them more of what they want.
