BNG2027 could mark the first time that a WWC is co-hosted by three countries

Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany have officially announced their joint bid to host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The three European nations first expressed their intention to co-host the prestigious tournament in 2020 and formally launched their bid, known as BNG2027, as soon as FIFA opened the bidding process on March 24.

The proposed plan for the tournament involves matches being played within a compact vicinity centred around the borders of the three countries. This strategic location aims to minimize travel and align with FIFA’s sustainability objectives.

The BNG2027 bid book

The specific commercial and logistical plans for the tournament will be detailed in BNG2027’s bid book. This comprehensive document is due to be submitted to FIFA by December 8. It will outline the infrastructure, facilities and strategies that the three nations plan to implement for the successful execution of the tournament.

The joint European bid for the 2027 edition is one of four in contention to win hosting rights. The other bids include solo submissions from South Africa and Brazil, and a joint bid from the United States and Mexico.

The announcement of the BNG2027 bid comes on the heels of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The tournament featured 32 teams, with Spain clinching the title for the first time after defeating England in the final.

Previous hosting experience

Germany has previously hosted the Women’s World Cup in 2011, and the Netherlands staged the UEFA Euro 2017 tournament. Belgium, on the other hand, has yet to host a major women’s tournament. If the BNG2027 bid is successful, it will mark the first time that a Women’s World Cup is co-hosted by three countries.

FIFA will announce the host for the 2027 tournament at its annual congress on May 24 next year in Bangkok, Thailand. This decision will undoubtedly be eagerly awaited by sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike, as it will set the stage for another thrilling edition of the Women’s World Cup.

The joint bid by Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany represents a unique and sustainable approach to hosting the Women’s World Cup. The success of this bid could potentially pave the way for more multi-nation hosting arrangements in the future.
