Reiss Nelson has reportedly conveyed his desire to leave Emirates this window

Arsenal winger, Reiss Nelson, has reportedly expressed his intention to reassess his future with the club this summer. This comes as a surprise considering he signed a new four-year contract just last year.

Nelson, 24, committed himself to Arsenal until 2027 by signing a four-year contract last summer. The decision followed a season in which he made significant contributions to Arsenal's unexpected Premier League title challenge. However, just one year later, Nelson is contemplating leaving due to limited game time.

Despite his potential and previous performances for the Gunners, Nelson only managed one start in the Premier League match during the past season. His lack of playing time has led him to consider whether staying at his boyhood club is best for his career progression.

Permanent transfer likely for Nelson

According to reports from The Athletic, Nelson has informed Arsenal about weighing up his options. It seems that he believes exploring opportunities elsewhere might be more beneficial for him professionally.

The north London club is expected to seek around £20 million if they decide to let go of their young starlet. Several Premier League clubs have already shown interest in acquiring Nelson's services this summer; these include Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

Dull 2023/24 season

In terms of performance during the 2023-24 campaign, it was not an impressive season for Nelson as he failed to score in any of his 15 league appearances. His only goal came during a League Cup match against Brentford in September where Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory thanks largely due to him.

Reiss Nelson rose through ranks at the Arsenal academy before making his senior debut back in 2017. He then had successful loan spells at Hoffenheim (Bundesliga) and Feyenoord (Eredivisie), gaining valuable experience and showcasing his potential.

For the England Under 21 team, Nelson had a productive record, scoring six times in just 12 appearances. His performance for the Young Lions further highlights his potential and why he is considered one of England's promising talents. As the summer transfer window approaches, it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds. Will Arsenal manage to convince their young star to stay or will we see Reiss Nelson donning a new jersey next season? Only time will tell.
