ITV and Guinness have once again teamed up to offer live audio descriptive commentary, this time for the Women’s Euros. This partnership follows their previous successful collaboration on the men's Six Nations over the past two years.
The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance accessibility for blind and partially sighted audiences. The commentary provides a level of visual detail about the action on the field and captures the surrounding stadium atmosphere far beyond what standard broadcast commentary offers.
This service will be available during ITV’s coverage of all England and Wales matches throughout the tournament, starting with England v France on Saturday 5 July on ITV1 and STV. Dave Rogers and Joe Byrnes will be providing this specialized commentary.
Sharing broadcasting rights
ITV is sharing broadcasting rights to the Women’s Euros with BBC, which commenced on 2 July. This joint venture allows both networks to reach a wider audience while promoting inclusivity in sports broadcasting.
Nick Payman, head of Guinness, said:
“We are incredibly proud to extend our partnership with ITV to bring live audio descriptive commentary to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. This initiative builds on Guinness’s commitment to making sport as inclusive and accessible as possible, ensuring that even more fans can experience this summer’s tournament.”
This innovative partnership between ITV and Guinness demonstrates a commitment towards making sports more accessible for everyone regardless of their physical abilities or limitations. It sets an example that other broadcasters can follow in order to make sports viewing more inclusive globally.
