Liverpool, one of the most successful football clubs in England, is currently facing a challenging period. The club's manager, Arne Slot, finds himself under increasing pressure following a series of disappointing results. Despite this, he maintains that his conversations with the club's owners remain consistent and they are determined to "fight on".
The Dutch manager is feeling the heat at Anfield after Liverpool suffered a 4-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League fixture. This marks their ninth loss in 12 games this season - their worst run in 71 years.
When asked if he had spoken to sporting director Richard Hughes or the ownership group post-match.
Arne Slot, Liverpool manager, said:
"We've had the same conversations that we've had since I got here. We fight on. We try to improve, but the conversations have been the same as they have been for the last one and a half years."
"There is a lot of pressure if you work or play at a top club. And then there is even more when you start losing more games than this club, players or the manager are used to. But there was pressure last season as well for us to win the league. But now it's a different kind of pressure because we have lost so many games.
"In the end, it's about doing what this club is about. Keep fighting no matter how difficult it is. It would also be nice if we reward ourselves in the moments we play well."
High expectations following successful season
In May, Slot guided Liverpool to clinch their 20th league title and made a hefty investment of nearly £450m on new signings in the summer. This included a British record £125m for Alexander Isak.
However, despite these significant investments and past successes, Liverpool currently sits at an unimpressive 12th position in the Premier League with six wins and six defeats after twelve matches. In addition to this domestic struggle, they also sit uncomfortably at 13th place out of 36 teams during the league phase of Champions League.
Following their latest defeat against PSV Eindhoven, former Reds defender Jamie Carragher commented on CBS Sports that while Liverpool is "not a sacking club", there comes a point when any manager’s position becomes untenable due to poor performance. Despite these comments and growing pressure from fans and critics alike; it seems like Arne Slot remains committed towards turning things around for Liverpool FC. His determination echoes through his statement about having 'same conversations' with management as when he first arrived at Anfield.
