The Premier League legend has backed Chelsea to finish in top four

Chelsea suffered an unexpected blow when their neighbours scored twice in the last ten minutes of the game, including a 95th minute winner. This resulted in Chelsea dropping to third place in the Premier League table, just one point behind Arsenal. However, despite this setback and drawing against Everton last weekend, there is no need for panic according to Shearer.

The former England captain maintains his belief that Chelsea will still finish within the top four.

Alan Shearer, Newcastle United legend, said:

“Oh absolutely [Chelsea are ahead of the curve],”

“I think when you look at where they are now, there’s no doubt they’ll have taken that.

“I still think they’ll finish in the top four which would be a brilliant achievement for them and I think they’ll win the Conference League also.”

Exceeding expectations

Chelsea's performance this season has exceeded expectations under Italian coach Enzo Maresca. His influence has been instrumental as Chelsea have showcased some of their best football this season.

Maresca has repeatedly emphasized that while Chelsea may be partaking in title conversations, they are not title contenders - with their defeat against Fulham serving as prime evidence. Yet despite these assertions, it is clear that under Maresca’s guidance, Chelsea is well ahead of where many expected them to be at this stage. As 2025 approaches rapidly on the horizon, it appears set to be an exciting year for Chelsea Football Club. They will conclude 2024 with a match against Ipswich on Monday night – a game they are eager to win after recent setbacks.

However disappointing recent results may have been though, the overall start to the campaign has been very positive. Chelsea is clearly on an upward trajectory and appears to be moving closer towards their ultimate goals. Despite recent hiccups, there is a strong belief that Chelsea will secure a top-four finish this season. With Shearer's endorsement and Maresca's leadership, the Blues are poised for success in 2025.
