- Southampton have lost last 4 games
- Southampton haven't kept clean sheet in last 26 games
- Leeds have kept most clean sheet in league so far
Leeds United and Southampton both competed in the Premier League last season, but now have fallen to the Championship. Although both teams had a rough start to the Championship, things seem to be settling down for Leeds United, while Southampton seem to be struggling.
Southampton is having a terrible season in the league. One year ago, they were tussling in the Premier League, but their fortunes have changed drastically. They have lost their last four games and nothing seems to be clicking for them at the moment. In their first four games this season, they won three out of four, but now they are 15th in the league.
It's no secret that Saints' defence was the reason for their relegation and now they're getting exposed in the Championship as well with 12 goals conceded in their last 4 games. Southampton must improve or it will be a long struggle for them.
Leeds United Form
Leeds United are the exact opposite of Southampton in recent weeks. They also had a tough start to the season with a single win in the last four games but things have changed dramatically. The team hasn't lost a game in 7 matches and is climbing the table.
With the league's most clean sheets, their defence is leading the charge. Leeds United currently sit 6th in the table with 3 wins, 4 draws and just one loss. Last week, they thrashed out Watford 3-0, which was a perfect example of how they are shaping up this season.
Leeds United holds the edge over Southampton in the head-to-head matchup. Four of Leeds United's last 9 matches have ended in victory, while three for Southampton.
Injuries have hindered Leeds United since start of season, but that hasn't stopped them from playing well. Spence, Firpo, Bamford, Dallas and Gnonto are the players expected to miss this game.
There are three injuries in Southampton's camp. Stephens is nursing a calf injury, Larios is out due to a knock, and Stewart is nursing an achilles injury.
This season, Leeds United has been extremely fortunate to have signed Joel Piroe. In the absence of Bamford, he has filled the void up front. As of now, Piroe has scored four goals since joining us from Swansea. His performance was the difference in the last game against Watford as well.
Southampton's best player this season has been Adam Armstrong. Despite joining Southampton in 2021, he was unable to cement his place, but with the departure of many stars, Armstrong has seized the chance. The striker has scored five goals so far and poses a serious threat to Leeds United.
Following their relegation, Leeds United and Southampton are both facing difficult challenges this season. There is no doubt Leeds United are the strongest team at the moment and will fancy themselves against Southampton. Southampton may not be in the best of form at the moment, but they can undo Leeds United on their day. This should be a tight game.
