United Media, the broadcasting division of United Group, a Southeast European service provider, has successfully acquired sole rights to air the Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) on its Sport Klub channels. The deal extends to six countries in Southeastern Europe: Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
Starting this autumn season on Sport Klub channels, viewers will have access to all live Bundesliga rounds, as well as complete coverage of both DHB Cup and Super Cup events throughout their 34-week-long seasons.
Nemanja Simeunovic, CEO of Sport Klub, said:
“We have always been dedicated to handball. Throughout the last 17 years, Sport Klub has given great importance to this sport through live broadcasts, and we are thrilled to offer the best national handball league this season. Fans can enjoy exciting matches between German and European giants in every league round.”
The Handball-Bundesliga said in a statement:
“The partnership with Sport Klub due to its extensive popularity and coverage in the region. Broadcasting top-level handball to viewers in all six countries will contribute to the league’s clubs’ and players’ increased popularity.”
The German handball competition is recognised by the European Handball Federation as Europe's most prominent national league. This acquisition by United Media not only expands its sports portfolio but also provides fans with exclusive access to top-tier handball games from one of the strongest leagues in the continent.
The multi-year partnership with Handball-Bundesliga comes amidst efforts by United Media towards diversifying its sports content offerings. In line with this growth strategy, it recently entered into another long-term agreement with Spain's Association of Basketball Clubs (ACB) for exclusive broadcast rights for Liga Endesa matches across all Sports Klub outlets.
