Tottenham has the option to permanently sign Palhinha for €30m ($34m) after the loan

Tottenham Hotspur is on the brink of securing a loan deal for João Palhinha, the Bayern Munich midfielder. The Portugal international is scheduled to undergo a medical examination on Friday, according to sources close to PA news agency.

The Spurs are keen on strengthening their team under new manager Thomas Frank as they prepare for their return to the Champions League this season. Their sights are set firmly on Palhinha, who has had an impressive career in international football.

Palhinha joined Bayern only last summer from Fulham in a deal worth up to £47.4 million ($63m). However, his debut campaign was challenging as he made only six starts in Bundesliga. This lack of game time has paved the way for his potential return to Premier League action with Tottenham.

Negotiations underway

ESPN reported that negotiations between Tottenham and Bayern were ongoing as of Thursday. Now it appears an agreement has been reached, with sources confirming that Palhinha has been given permission to proceed with medical examinations ahead of his proposed move.

The 30-year-old midfielder will join Spurs on a season-long loan if all goes well during these preliminary stages. The deal includes an option for Tottenham to make this move permanent at a cost of €30m ($34m).

Fan favourite returns

During his two-year stint at Craven Cottage with Fulham, Palhinha quickly won over fans thanks to his dynamic style across 79 appearances where he scored eight goals. His performance earned him a transfer from Sporting Lisbon youth team all the way up into German champions' squad - Bayern Munich.

However, after struggling for opportunities and making only 25 appearances last season at Bayern Munich, it seems London calls once again for this talented player.

If everything goes according to plan during Friday's medical examination, Tottenham fans can look forward to welcoming a familiar face back to the Premier League. Palhinha's return could provide the boost that Spurs need as they gear up for their Champions League campaign.
