TNT Sports, a subscription sports channel owned by Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), has successfully extended its broadcast deal with the Argentine Football Association (AFA). This agreement ensures that TNT Sports will continue to air Primera Division matches, one of Argentina's premier soccer leagues, until 2031.
Since 2017, TNT Sports has been a significant player in the broadcasting of Argentine first division matches. The channel has consistently aired live broadcasts for half of these games. The remaining matches are shown on a delayed basis. This long-standing partnership between TNT and AFA is set to continue well into the next decade.
Shared broadcasting rights
The rights to broadcast Primera Division matches are not exclusive to TNT Sports. ESPN, another heavyweight in sports broadcasting, owns the other half of these rights. In 2021, ESPN renewed its own contract for airing Primera Division games for the cycle spanning from 2027-2030.
TNT Sport's commitment to Argentine soccer extends beyond just the Primera Division league games. They have also been responsible for broadcasting other tournaments organized by AFA such as domestic under-20 Proyección Tournament and Women's Championship. These additional broadcasts underscore TNT Sport's dedication towards promoting and supporting various facets of Argentine soccer.
Fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead as preparations are already underway for the upcoming edition of this popular league. Scheduled to kick off on January 23rd and run through December 14th, this tournament will feature thirty teams vying for supremacy on Argentina’s football fields.
