Canadian sports media business, Tenor Sports, has recently acquired the rights to Scottish football’s SPFL pyramid on a multi-year basis. This move marks a significant development in the Canadian sports broadcasting landscape and is expected to cater to the growing football fanbase in Canada.
The deal, which began on January 3rd, will see Scottish action shown on a pay-per-view (PPV) basis. Up until the May 17 finale of the current 2025-26 season, Tenor will showcase as many as 41 live games primarily from the top-flight Scottish Premiership. This slate will also include select lower-division games from the second-tier championship.
The agreement extends into the 2026-27 campaign with an impressive broadcast of 96 games including fixtures from domestic knockout Scottish League Cup competition (known as Premier Sports Cup), and lower-tier Scottish Challenge Cup (the KDM Evolution Trophy).
Pricing and distribution
Broadcasts will be distributed at CA$7.99 each game. Fans can also opt for a season pass for CA$79.99 covering 35 Premiership and Championship games or a $29.99 “playoff pack” comprising six fixtures - semi-finals and finals of annual promotion and relegation playoffs.
ScottishSoccer.CA is powered by StreamEAI platform offering video-on-demand (VOD) service for matches up to 48 hours after their conclusion followed by highlights available as VOD. Swiss sports rights agency Infront brokered this landmark deal acting as SPFL’s global media rights partner.
Canada boasts an impressive number of self-reported individuals with Scottish ethnic or cultural origins - as many as 4.39 million according to a 2021 census. The country also has a growing football fanbase, making this deal particularly significant. The year 2026 will see Canada jointly hosting the FIFA World Cup matches with the US and Mexico, staging 12 games across Vancouver and Toronto. Tenor Sports aims to leverage this opportunity by highlighting Canadian national team players competing in SPFL like Derek Cornelius (Rangers), Alistair Johnston (Celtic), and Junior Hoilett (Hibernian).
Inaugural game
The partnership was inaugurated on January 3 with the showpiece Old Firm derby game between Glasgow rivals Rangers and Celtic, resulting in a victory for Rangers.
In related news, Scottish gas company Pipeline Energy Solutions has stepped in as back-of-shirt sponsor for Rangers for the rest of the 2025-26 season. This branding will appear on all kits worn by both men’s and women’s teams throughout the season.
This new era of Scottish football broadcasting in Canada promises exciting times ahead for sports fans and betting enthusiasts alike.
