Reports suggest that the pundit may have two pay-TV options to chose from next season

According to a report in the Mirror, BT Sport pundit and former Celtic star Chris Sutton may be a target for broadcasting rival Sky Sports this summer.

The former Norwich, Blackburn and Celtic striker may be in the frame to become the lead voice of Sky Sports' Scottish football coverage next season alongside former Rangers star Kris Boyd.

However, there are no indications that BT Sport, soon to be rebranded as TNT Sports, are keen to lose one of their most recognisable football pundits.

Big changes at BT Sport this summer

From next month, July 2023, BT Sport will officially become TNT Sports, but anyone who has been watching the network over recent months will know that the pay-TV giant wants to make it clear that they will provide the same coverage, only with a new name.

Of course BT will retain their rights to all UEFA competitions, their Premier League rights, several high profile European football leagues, tennis, motor racing and other properties.

The only real difference, according to the "new name, same game" marketing campaign, will be the new TNT Sports branding.

However, as this new name marks the official merger between BT Sport and Warner Bros. Discovery, it's not out of the realm of possibility that we could see more significant changes, in terms of production style, scheduling and indeed personnel.

WBD Sports Europe Managing Director, Andrew Georgiou, said:

"The TNT Sports name is already synonymous with premium live sports in a number of countries around the world and a further sign of the global scale and expertise that WBD brings to the partnership with BT."

Sky looking to bolster their Scottish football coverage

For Sky Sports' part, they are simply looking to acquire what would be a marque signing for them in their bid to revamp their coverage of the Scottish Premiership and associated competitions.

Adding a legend of the Scottish game in Chris Sutton, and placing him alongside the aforementioned Boyd, former Scotland international James McFadden and others, would bring more gravitas to its coverage of the game north of the border.

Next season will be an interesting one in the Scottish Premiership, following the news that treble-winning Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou will be heading down to London to take over at Tottenham Hotspur.

With a new name in the dugout at Parkhead, we could see the tide of domination in Scotland swing back Rangers' way. It will depend on how this new Celtic boss gets on. Only time will tell.
