Spanish public-service broadcaster, RTVE, has announced a significant agreement with UEFA, the governing body of European soccer. The deal will allow RTVE to broadcast the men's Euro 2028 national teams tournament and Spanish men's national soccer team matches from 2026 to 2028.
RTVE president José Pablo López confirmed that the broadcaster reached an agreement with UEFA. This landmark deal ensures that sports fans across Spain will be able to tune into their favorite games without any hassle.
Spain is set to defend its title in the upcoming tournament after winning against England in the Euro 2024 final. Interestingly, England is one of the hosts for Euro 2028 edition.
Comprehensive coverage
The broadcasting rights secured by RTVE are extensive and include matches from the 2026-27 season such as qualifying matches for Euro 2028. In addition, they have also acquired rights for an extra twenty games featuring other European national teams. This means sports fans can look forward to watching a total of forty additional matches apart from those in UEFA Euro 2028 games.
The much-anticipated men's Euro 2028 tournament is scheduled to be held in both United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland between June and July in year 2028.
Continued partnership
In December last year, it was revealed that RTVE had retained broadcasting rights for another major event - The showpiece UEFA Champions League final- extending their coverage over next three years till year 2017.
This continued partnership comes at a cost; reports suggest that RTVE paid €2.5 million ($2.62 million) each for securing broadcasting rights for next three Champions League finals scheduled on May 31st (in 2015), May 30th (in 2016), and June 5th (in year-2017), totaling to €7.5 million.
This agreement between RTVE and UEFA is a significant development for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts in Spain. With the broadcasting rights for Euro 2028, along with Spanish men's national soccer team matches from 2026 to 2028, RTVE has ensured that it remains the go-to broadcaster for major European soccer events. This move not only enhances their programming but also provides an engaging platform for fans to enjoy their favorite sport.
