Prime Video is set to revolutionize the way sports fans engage during UEFA Champions League matches. The streaming giant has announced the introduction of an alternate feed that will feature advanced statistics, real-time insights, and never-before-seen graphics. This innovative approach aims to enhance fan engagement by offering a deeper understanding of the game.
The new features are part of Prime Video's commitment to evolve its coverage over time through fan feedback and AI-powered innovations. The platform promises unique features and insights previously only available to football clubs, scouting departments, and online data platforms.
Alex Green, managing director, Prime Video Sport, International, said:
“Prime Vision combines the best of Amazon’s world class production and technology experience to raise the bar for football fans and offer something meaningfully different. European football is unique, and we are going to take the time to listen to fans and add functionality in the years to come, alongside the learnings we have with Prime Vision from other sports. Prime Vision allows us to experiment and test an all-new broadcast whilst preserving the main broadcast experience that is enjoyed by millions of households on Prime Video.”
Unveiling advanced insights
Prime Video's alternate feed will offer a range of insights including:
- Tactical Map: Fans can view all 22 player positions in real-time, just like coaching staff. This feature allows viewers to observe team structures in rest-defence mode or track how a winger pressures the fullback out of possession.
- Momentum: An AI model calculates live momentum using metrics such as possession, player positioning, and chances created. Displayed below the Tactical Map as a Momentum bar, it indicates the probability that either team will score within 10 seconds.
- Physical Insights: Fans can compare physical output from top players in real-time with data on jump height, running speed, shot speed, pass distances etc.
- Advanced Analytics: Cutting-edge metrics traditionally used by football clubs are now available within broadcasts including expected goals (xG), shot quality (xGOT), expected pass (xPass) expected save (xSave) etc.
- Passing Options: Prime Vision uses player positioning data to highlight three most likely passing options before a pass is made.
- Player ID: A nametag overlay for players in possession helps fans identify unfamiliar teams and squads during European competitions.
Dynamic standings integration
In addition to these features, Prime Video is integrating Dynamic Standings into the main broadcast experience. This allows fans to see live impacts on the league table across all Champions League fixtures as they unfold.
Fans can select the Prime Vision alternate feed from both the match detail page and in-game using their remote control. They can also select “Live Standings” from the in-game menu, with clear markers for automatic qualification, play-off positions and teams facing elimination.
Prime Video's innovative approach to sports broadcasting promises a more engaging and informative viewing experience for Champions League fans. By bringing advanced insights directly to viewers' screens, it offers a unique perspective that was previously only available behind-the-scenes at football clubs.
