Premier Sports, a leading UK pay-TV sports network, has announced its coverage of the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup men's national teams soccer tournament. This marks a significant development in the sports broadcasting landscape and is expected to attract a large audience of soccer fans across the United Kingdom.
The network has previously covered this prestigious event in 2021. However, it was Viaplay, the Scandinavian media group that owned Premier Sports at that time, which aired the previous edition of this biennial tournament held in 2023.
Due to significant financial issues encountered by Viaplay in 2023, it had to withdraw from many European markets where it had been expanding its presence over several years. Consequently, Viaplay sold its UK business back to Premier Sports last April.
Tournament details
This year's Concacaf Gold Cup will feature 16 teams and will be held across various venues in Canada and the US between June 14 and July 6. A total of fourteen venues are set for use during this period.
Notable players who could potentially participate include Jamaica's Mason Holgate and Leon Bailey; Mexico's Edson Alvarez; as well as Chris Richards and Tyler Adams from the US - all of whom play their club soccer within UK borders.
In addition to covering major events like these, Premier Sports also broadcasts Spain's domestic LaLiga through a partnership with LaLiga TV. It also provides coverage for national team action from South American qualifiers for FIFA World Cup matches.
International coverage
For international viewership outside of North America – German broadcaster Sportdigital recently announced a rights deal late May that allows them to air all thirty-one games from this event across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (the DACH region).
Domestically, in the US, Fox will provide English-language coverage of the tournament while TelevisaUnivision will cater to Spanish-speaking audiences.
The return of Premier Sports as the broadcaster for the Concacaf Gold Cup is a significant development for UK sports fans. With its extensive coverage and history with this event, viewers can look forward to an engaging and comprehensive viewing experience.
