The Liverpool legend predicts Arsenal to win this year's league title, exciting many Gunners fans

Former English footballer and sports pundit, Michael Owen, has recently revised his Premier League title prediction for the 2025-26 season. He also disclosed his top-four finishers for this term. This article will delve into Owen's predictions and the current standings in the league.

Arsenal currently sits at the top of the table after eight games into the 2025-26 season. The Gunners are on a quest to secure their first top-flight trophy in over two decades - a feat they last achieved 22 years ago.

The team has consistently shown strong performances, finishing as runners-up in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons. Currently, they hold a three-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.

Top four contenders

Owen’s former club Liverpool, who were crowned champions in the previous season (2024-25), are now third on points tally and goal difference. They share these statistics with fourth-placed AFC Bournemouth.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur follow closely behind at fifth and sixth positions respectively, leading Sunderland and Crystal Palace by an undisclosed margin. Rounding up the current top ten are Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion. In light of these standings, Michael Owen made a bold prediction that could excite many Gunners fans - he believes that Arsenal will clinch this year's league title.

Michael Owen, Liverpool legend, said:

‘I tipped Liverpool to win the Premier League before the season, but now, I’d say Arsenal. They look strong. But Liverpool are still a very good side and not far off. I don’t fancy Manchester City as much this year. My current top four would be Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea. For relegation, I’d probably say Leeds, Burnley, and Wolves. Nottingham Forest might escape it with their managerial change, but those three look most at risk.’

‘I really don’t get that argument [about Mikel Arteta’s job being on the line if Arsenal don’t win the Premier League]. Arsenal have been excellent for years. They’ve had more points over the last three seasons than anyone else. You can’t keep doing that and not win something eventually. Even finishing second isn’t a failure.

‘Look at Liverpool – they’ve won two Premier League titles but have come second plenty of times too. Manchester City have come second a few times in their recent history. People act like second is negative, but it’s not. Arsenal are getting closer. They got to the semi-finals of the Champions League last year and did better than any other English club.’

This forecast is significant given Arsenal’s long-standing pursuit of another Premier League trophy since their last win more than two decades ago. For sports fans worldwide – particularly those rooting for Arsenal – it promises to be an exhilarating journey. And for sports betting fans, these predictions could provide valuable insights into where to place their bets. Remember, the beauty of football lies in its unpredictability. So, let's keep watching and cheering on our favourite teams!
