Liverpool, the Premier League champions, are reportedly in ongoing negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt over the signing of their star player, Hugo Ekitike. Despite premature reports from Germany suggesting a £69m deal has been agreed upon, sources close to Liverpool have clarified that these claims are unfounded. However, it is widely believed that Ekitike, a forward for France Under-21s team, is keen on making a move to Anfield.

The potential acquisition of Ekitike comes as part of Liverpool's strategy to overhaul their striking department. This need has become more urgent following the unfortunate demise of Diogo Jota earlier this month. Furthermore, Luis Díaz could potentially depart from Merseyside with Bayern Munich showing interest in the Colombia international. Darwin Núñez also remains on sale despite his desired move to Napoli cooling off recently.

It should be noted that neither departure will be at a cut price which further emphasizes Liverpool’s commitment towards strengthening its squad.

Negotiations for Hugo Ekitike

Ekitike currently has an £86m release clause in his contract with Frankfurt and negotiations continue despite rumours about Alexander Isak being unsettled at Newcastle United. Isak was left out by manager Eddie Howe from the squad that lost 4‑0 at Celtic in a pre‑season friendly due to recent transfer speculation.

However, Howe expressed confidence that Isak would remain with Newcastle till the end of the window period. While Liverpool is prepared to pay a British record transfer fee for Isak as their new No 9 striker; chances remain slim due to financial constraints which have led them towards pursuing Ekitike more aggressively.

Other potential signings

Isak and previously linked player Ekitike have both been associated with Arsenal too but it seems Liverpool is leading the race. Ekitike had an impressive run last season, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions for Frankfurt.

Liverpool has already made significant signings this summer with Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez joining the club. Additionally, Giorgi Mamardashvili will be linking up with the team after agreeing to a move last August.

While there are still uncertainties surrounding Liverpool's pursuit of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, it is clear that the Premier League champions are committed to strengthening their squad ahead of the new season. The potential signing of Ekitike could prove pivotal in their quest for continued success on both domestic and international fronts.
