Belgian media report a farewell now seems inevitable with his contract expiring and no extension agreed

Leandro Trossard is expected to leave Arsenal at the end of the season, with Belgian media reporting that his departure from the Emirates Stadium now appears inevitable as no contract extension has been agreed and the 31-year-old enters his final weeks at the club.

Belgian publication Het Belang van Limburg stated bluntly that "a farewell now seems inevitable" for the winger, adding that if Arsenal want to cash in on Trossard rather than losing him for nothing, "then it will have to happen this summer." The report described Trossard as one of the cornerstones of Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, making his departure a significant moment in the club's recent history.

The numbers behind a successful stint

Trossard arrived from Brighton in January 2023 for £27 million and has gone on to make 168 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 35 goals and providing 32 assists. This season alone he has contributed seven goals and nine assists across all competitions, remaining one of Arsenal's five most important attacking players despite losing his starting position to summer signings.

Last summer Trossard attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, Galatasaray and Besiktas, but Arteta blocked a move and his contract terms were improved instead. Now, with his deal expiring and Arteta's squad deeper than it has ever been, the calculus has changed. Napoli are understood to be showing the strongest interest, with the Serie A club willing to pay around €18 million. Inter Milan have also been credited with interest in the Belgian.

Trossard's exit would free up wages and generate a modest fee at a time when Arsenal are planning a significant summer rebuild. Sporting director Andrea Berta is understood to be targeting Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao as a left winger, a deal that would require a fee of around £78 million to trigger his release clause. Selling Trossard and potentially Gabriel Martinelli would go some way towards funding that ambition.
