Spanish men's top-tier LaLiga has initiated the process of finding broadcast rights partners for the next five seasons across seven European markets. The move is part of a broader strategy to expand its global footprint and enhance viewer engagement.
LaLiga has launched one tender for the five campaigns between 2026-27 and 2030-31 in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Another tender covers that same period in Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and Cyprus. The deadline for first-round bids is set at 12pm (Central European Time) on May 6th. LaLiga aims to finalize all contracts with selected broadcasters within that month if feasible.
The rights packages on offer include live coverage of all LaLiga matches, a highlights and clips package, shoulder programming access to the league's own LaLiga TV channel.
Current broadcasters
Currently, Setanta Sports broadcasts LaLiga action across the three Baltic markets under a five-season deal which began in mid-2021. TV3's Go3 channels also cover matches. In Croatia and Slovenia as well as other Balkan markets Arena Sport holds broadcasting rights while Cytavision is the rights-holder in Cyprus. Greek fans can currently watch LaLiga action via Nova.
Amongst these countries' players featuring prominently in Lal Liga are Slovenia's goalkeeper Jan Oblak who plays for Atletico Madrid since 2014; Sevilla’s Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos; Real Sociedad’s Croatian pair Luca Sucic & Duje Caleta-Car; Osasuna’s Croatian striker Ante Budimir. In addition to expanding its broadcasting reach, Lal Liga has also unveiled a partnership with Fastly - a global edge cloud platform. The collaboration aims to address the issue of digital piracy, specifically illegal live streaming of LaLiga matches.
LaLiga estimates that piracy costs its member clubs between $700 million and $800 million each year. Fastly claims to have developed a system leveraging AI and proprietary content signals to identify illegal streams in real time. Both parties are also collaborating with other technology firms, publishers, and regulators to develop software solutions and best practices for quickly detecting and disabling unauthorized streaming while leaving all other traffic untouched.
Earlier this month, LaLiga became the first European soccer partner of Polymarket - a cryptocurrency-based prediction market firm. As the official prediction market of LaLiga in the US and Canada, Polymarket will provide more opportunities for North American fans to engage with LaLiga and its players. The 2025-26 LaLiga season is set to conclude in late May.
