Jamie Carragher, a Liverpool legend, has found himself in an interesting position as his son, James Carragher, is closing in on his career tally. This comes after the younger Carragher scored his first professional goal for Wigan Athletic Football Club.
James Carragher made headlines on Saturday when he scored the opener for Wigan in a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers in League One fixture. This strike marked a significant milestone for the 22-year-old as it was the first of his professional career. While this is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting journey, James will undoubtedly be aiming to add more goals to his tally before he retires.
Closing in on dad's tally
Interestingly enough, this single goal puts James only three behind Jamie's total career goals. Jamie had a successful and long-standing career at Liverpool where he won several titles including FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League titles. However, despite making over 500 appearances for both club and country during his illustrious career, Jamie was not particularly known for scoring goals - netting just four times.
The fact that James is already close to surpassing him did not seem to sit well with Jamie who took to social media with some choice emojis expressing surprise and perhaps a hint of competitive spirit.
James' next opportunity to inch closer towards beating his father’s record comes up on Tuesday against Peterborough United Football Club. As he continues striving towards this personal achievement on the field, off it we can expect Jamie back on our TV screens over the weekend fulfilling punditry duties.
