Carragher recently joked about Richards’ new haircut, calling it awful

In a recent live television broadcast, former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher apologised to ex-Manchester City star Micah Richards after a joke about his new haircut went too far. The incident occurred during the CBS panel's coverage of the Champions League match.

The attention quickly shifted from football to Richards' new hairstyle during Tuesday night's show. Carragher did not hold back in his critique, stating that Richards looked "awful" with his new look. He compared it unfavorably to Richard's old style, which he described as "so cool".

Thierry Henry and host Kate Abdo watched on as Carragher continued with his brutal comments. Henry also chimed in, saying that the new hairstyle didn't suit Richards and he was saying this as a friend.

Reconciliation on air

24 hours later, the quartet reconvened on air where Richards expressed how much Carragher had ruined his confidence with those remarks. In response, Carragher revealed that even his wife Nicola thought he had gone too far with the jokes.

Richards was surprised by Nicola’s intervention but appreciated her support. The two sportsmen then shook hands live on air in an act of reconciliation.

Public opinion weighs in

Despite being mocked by colleagues for changing up his look and wearing contact lenses instead of glasses - another point of contention brought up by Carragher -  Richards stated that he is happy with how he looks now. However, when CBS conducted a poll asking their social media followers whether they preferred 'Old Meeks' or 'New Meeks', 79 per cent out of 6,714 votes were cast in favor of Richard's former look.

Kate Abdo claimed she liked Richard’s new appearance describing it as "nice and crispy", but also questioned if perhaps there had been a hair transplant involved. Richards was quick to deny this, stating he had not been to Turkey, a popular destination for such procedures. Richards has previously admitted that he spends £200 on a haircut three times a week. This amounts to an annual expenditure of £30,000 on his hair alone.

While the incident may have caused some tension between Carragher and Richards initially, it seems they have managed to resolve their differences amicably. As for Richards' new look - the jury is still out with the public opinion leaning towards his old style.
