The Red Bulls must win to keep their hopes of Bundesliga glory alive when they face mid table Hoffenheim on Friday night live on BT Sport

Julian Nagelsmann and his men can move within two points of Bayern Munich with a win over a struggling Hoffenheim who are winless in four and not in their best form. The Red Bulls returned to winning ways themselves last weekend with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen. That victory came after they narrowly lost to Bayern 1-0 in the previous gameweek. Many would have written off the East German side after that defeat but Leipzig fans and neutrals will still believe that a couple of slip-ups from a team which is currently without key players Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka could open the door for them to make history and capture their first Bundesliga crown.

Preview: RB Leipzig vs Hoffenheim

Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann himself conceded the title after their loss to Bayern Munich extended the gap at the top to seven points but he may have jumped the gun. Bayern did in fact slip up when they drew 1-1 in their home game against Union Berlin. The aforementioned missing players may have played a huge factor in that result, and RB Leipzig will be hoping that is a sign of things to come in the next few vital weeks. Leipzig are now back within five points and a win over Hoffenheim at the Red Bull Arena on Friday would take them within two and heap pressure onto Hansi Flick's side who will also be shell-shocked by their defeat and elimination at the hands of PSG.

Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams will likely not play in this game as he came off injured against Werder Bremen. Adams will join Yussuf Poulsen and Konrad Laimer on the sidelines. Leipzig will however be able to call upon Dayot Upamecano and Angelino who have recovered from muscle injuries. In general the second placed side will have a much stronger starting X1 than Hoffenheim. The Sinsheim club have a lengthy list of absentees for this match themselves including Dennis Geiger, Ermin Bicakcic and Benjamin Hubner who are ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Prediction: RB Leipzig 3-1 Hoffenheim

Given the recent form of the two sides, the quality they possess on the pitch, injuries and what they have to play for, it looks like a comfortable win for Leipzig. The Red Bulls are likely to be galvanised by Bayern's slip up last time out and will relish the opportunity to get back within two points of the league leaders. Hoffenheim could possibly get dragged into a relegation scrap as they sit only five points clear of Arminia Bielefeld in 16th but it would take a dramatic turn of events for that to happen. With nothing else to play for and the season almost over, their players are understandably likely to coast for the remaining few games. Of the two sides, one should have more passion and drive and much better players and that team is RB Leipzig.
