The popular website seems to be moving away from dodgy links and towards sports news

We now know that the UEFA Champions League final on May 28 will feature Real Madrid and Liverpool, but one place where fans won't be able to watch the game is Hesgoal. The once huge illegal live streaming site has issued a statement declaring that it will no longer be broadcasting any matches from the UCL or any UEFA club competition, including the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.

The statement read:

"Dear Visitors,

We dediced to stop putting any link of the UEFA competitions matches (Champions League, Europa League, Conference League) on the site "www.hesgoal.com" any more.

Sorry for that but we respect the UEFA holders' rights .

You can continue watching the UEFA competitions matches on the official TV/Satellite/internet channels like BT SPORTS (UK), SUPERSPORT (SA) , SPORT TV (PT) and BEIN SPORT(AR)."

This news comes after Hesgoal also stopped posting links to Premier League matches on the site in March.

Hesgoal pivots away from illegal live streaming

While Hesgoal have vowed to no longer publish copyrighted material from the English Premier League and the UEFA club competitions, they do still seem to offer some sports live streaming links, but they are much more niche - IPL cricket, golf and football from the UAE Premier League. Most big football leagues around the world are no longer offered by the website.

In fact, Hesgoal seems to be moving away from illegal live streaming entirely are more towards sports news. They have dedicated pages for football and car racing news and their homepage is full of links to news articles, instead of football live streams.

In their wake, there are plenty of other new websites popping up using the same brand name with several different domains. Instead of .com, you might see .tv or .pro - these sites are still offering links to illegal live streams from some of the world's biggest football leagues. Hesgoal.pro is advertising links for tonight's UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League semi final matches, as well as Premier League games coming up this weekend.

Who owns the rights to UEFA club competitions' matches in the UK?

BT Sport own the exclusive rights to broadcast all UEFA club competitions in the UK until at least 2024 either on TV or online via live stream. Any redistribution of these matches from their feeds is a breach of copyright law - something which the police are actively cracking down on in the country. Elsewhere, UEFA matches are carried by the likes of BEIN Sport in the MENA Region and CBS in the United States.

Illegal live streaming sites will often replicate broadcasts from multiple providers around the world, meaning that if, for example, the British police were able to take down their streams, they would have other links to the same game available to their viewers, taken from other broadcasters in other regions.
