Despite the team’s disappointing show so far, Euro has been hit in France

The 2024 European Championships national team soccer tournament has been attracting significant viewership in France. The recent 0-0 draw of France vs Netherlands brought in a whopping audience of over 10 million on the M6 network, one of the country's free-to-air (FTA) broadcasters.

The game, which was shown live in France, saw an impressive market share of 47.4%. However, this figure is slightly lower than that for Les Blues' opening Euro 2024 game against Austria. Their victorious match was watched live by an even larger audience - approximately 11.25 million - on TF1 FTA commercial network.

Euro 2024 fixtures are being broadcasted live by both M6 and TF1 networks in France. Additionally, BeIN Sports, an international pay-TV broadcaster also holds broadcasting rights to these games after securing a last-minute deal earlier this month.

Upcoming matches and expectations

As we look forward to more exciting matches from Euro 2024 taking place in Germany between June 14 and July 14, fans eagerly await France’s last group stage game against Poland on June 25 (tomorrow). A draw will confirm their qualification to the round of 16.

Meanwhile across the English Channel, UK’s BBC public-service broadcaster reported peak viewership figures of around 10 million for Scotland's unfortunate loss to Hungary – a result that knocked them out of Euros contention. The average audience for this group-stage game came up to about 8.4 million with streaming numbers reaching up to 3.4 million across various digital platforms including its iPlayer service and BBC Sport website.

This resulted in an average viewing figure equating to a market share of 52.1%. In terms of broadcasting rights within UK territory for Euro2024 games; they are shared between the BBC and commercial FTA broadcaster ITV.

The Euro 2024 tournament is proving to be a significant event for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike. The high viewership numbers indicate the immense popularity of football in Europe, with millions tuning in to support their national teams. As we move further into the tournament, these figures are expected to rise even higher, especially for crucial matches that could determine which teams advance to the next stages.
