The news isn't just one but three for Aussie fans.
The UFC has recently extended its multi year agreement with Foxtel Group, which has been home to UFC since 2008 in Australia and New Zealand.
There has been an exponential growth in the UFC's viewership since its collaboration with Foxtel. There are currently 4.3 million fans and 6 million social media followers across Australia and New Zealand.
As part of the deal, all UFC Pay Per View events will be broadcast exclusively on Foxtel's Main Event and Kayo Sports.
Foxtel will also continue to be the exclusive pay per view provider for UFC commercials, starting in January 2024 through its commercial arm, Foxtel for Business.
UFC President, Dana White said:
“I am excited that we are extending our broadcast partnership with Foxtel Group,”
“Foxtel and Kayo Sports are the best sports broadcasters in the country, and they have backed UFC in Australia since the beginning. Together, we will continue to grow UFC in Australia, and they will be the destination for the biggest and baddest fights we put on year-round. I can’t wait to get back to Sydney for UFC 293 this September. See you then Australia!”
Foxtel Group CEO, Patrick Delany, said:
“For 15 years we have been bringing the biggest UFC fights to Australian audiences and this new agreement will extend and elevate that partnership on the cusp of a golden era for the sport. The UFC boasts one of the youngest fan bases of any professional sport in the country and it’s exciting to continue our partnership with a brand that has such enormous growth potential – both at home and abroad. It’s the perfect match for our more than 3 million sports subscribers streaming on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.”
As well as keeping fans in the loop of UFC events occurring all over the world, Australia has become a hot market for UFC.
The recent UFC 284: MAKHACHEV VS. VOLKANOVSKI at the RAC Arena in Perth, recorded the highest-grossing event in any Australian arena, earning $5.8M (USD $3.9M).
In light of its great success, UFC will return to Sydney for UFC 293 in September this year, taking place on Sunday, September 10 at Qudos Bank Arena. Dana White also confirms his presence in the due event.
In addition to being UFC's first pay-per-view event in Sydney since 2011, the event will be their first return to Sydney since 2017.
Lastly, to bolster the 4.3 million fans, a sport with one of the youngest fan bases in Australia, with 48% between the ages of 18 and 39, Shaw - senior vice president of international content – confirmed Australia will become a permanent fixture of the UFC calendar, featuring at least one PPV and Fight Night event per year.
