Fox will be replacing ESPN as new home for Women’s Euro

US media giant, Fox, known for operating the Fox Sports group of linear pay-TV networks, has recently announced its acquisition of coverage rights for the 2025 UEFA Women's Euro matches. This move marks a significant expansion in Fox's sports broadcasting portfolio.

Fox has successfully secured these rights from sports broadcaster ESPN, which held the rights for the 2022 edition of the Women’s Euros. The shift in broadcasting rights signifies a strategic move by Fox to broaden its reach and cater to an increasingly diverse audience base.

The upcoming tournament is scheduled to take place in Switzerland between July 2 and 27 next year. With a total of sixteen teams participating, it promises to be an exciting event for soccer fans worldwide.

Extensive coverage rights

This deal ensures that Fox holds exclusive broadcasting rights to all three upcoming editions of the Euros. The network is currently covering the ongoing men’s Euro 2024 matches and also holds rights to broadcast the quadrennial tournament's edition in 2028 - a deal estimated by GlobalData as being worth $270 million in total.

Fox confirmed its coverage plans during halftime at a game between US and Bolivia men’s sides on June 23rd.

Broad football properties portfolio

In addition to showing both men's and women's editions of Euros, Fox also covers other prestigious soccer properties including FIFA World Cup (both genders), South America’s Copa America, and North & Central American Gold Cup. This extensive portfolio positions them as one of leading broadcasters within international football tournaments.

In terms of media rights within US top-tier women’s soccer specifically, domestic NWSL matches are shown by Amazon, CBS, ESPN alongside Scripps while FOX focuses on international events like UEFA championships. Earlier this month, Fox also secured a deal to become the exclusive broadcaster of IndyCar, the country’s elite-tier series of open-wheel motor racing. This agreement will see every race in the 2025 Indycar season, including qualifying rounds for the annual showpiece Indianapolis 500, broadcast across Fox’s networks.

Deals covering Euro 2025 have already been struck in Spain, France and sub-Saharan Africa. The CAA Eleven agency is working as UEFA’s rights sales partner for its national team competitions during the 2022-28 cycle.

The last Women's Euros was hosted and won by England in 2022. With this new broadcasting deal with Fox Sports, fans can look forward to extensive coverage of future tournaments.
