Everton Football Club has reached a significant milestone, securing a new long-term contract with England's first-choice goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford. The agreement is set to be officially signed this week, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano.
The Toffees have reportedly made headway in discussions with the 31-year-old shot-stopper, and fresh terms have been approved by Pickford’s camp. This comes as a relief for Everton fans as Pickford’s current contract was due to expire in less than two years. The club was eager to address his situation given their positive start under manager David Moyes this season.
Everton has had an impressive run so far, suffering just two defeats in their opening seven Premier League games. A key contributor to this success is undoubtedly Pickford who managed two clean sheets and conceded only seven goals during these matches.
Recent extensions at Everton
Pickford’s new deal follows recent extensions for defensive duo James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite. Both players have committed their futures to the club until 2028 and 2030 respectively.
Since joining Everton from Sunderland in the summer of 2017, Pickford has been irreplaceable between the posts. He marked his 300th Premier League appearance for the Toffees during last weekend’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace. The 'outstanding' goalkeeper boasts an impressive record of keeping 85 league clean sheets while conceding only 416 goals throughout his career at Everton. His consistent performances earned him four Player of the Season awards –in seasons: 2017-18, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.
On an international level, Pickford has been England’s first-choice goalkeeper for the past seven years. He has made 79 appearances and featured in four major tournaments, playing a crucial role in helping the Three Lions reach the European Championship finals in 2021 and 2024.
Future contract renegotiations
In addition to Pickford's contract extension, Everton is also expected to address midfielder James Garner’s future soon. Garner is among several players whose current deals expire at the end of this campaign, including Vitaliy Mykolenko, Michael Keane, Idrissa Gueye and Seamus Coleman.
Currently sitting eighth in the Premier League after seven games, Everton next faces a challenging match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
