The UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals have delivered substantial viewing figures across all competing markets, much like the rest of the tournament. The most notable viewership was recorded in England and Spain, with both countries anticipating even higher numbers for their final matchup on July 14.

England's national team’s victory over the Netherlands drew an average of 19.6 million viewers on commercial broadcaster ITV’s primary ITV1 channel. This figure peaked at a staggering 21.6 million viewers, marking it as the largest single-channel figure for ITV since England’s quarter-final match in the World Cup 2022.

In addition to traditional television viewing, digital platforms also saw significant engagement. The game performed well on ITVX streaming service which attracted a whopping 16.8 million streams. Overall coverage of this thrilling match held a massive national interest with a viewership share of 64% and an average viewer count of approximately 12.7 million during punditry segments.

Spain's victory also draws strong viewership in Spain

Spain's win in the other semi-final also garnered strong viewership numbers on free-to-air commercial broadcaster La1 (owned by state-owned media group Television Europa). An average audience of about 11.6 million tuned into watch this exciting match-up, equating to an impressive audience share of nearly 72%.

This number peaked at around 13.9 million during key moments in the game, setting high expectations for even larger audiences during their final clash against Three Lions.

High interest from losing teams' countries

Despite being defeated by England, Netherlands showed great interest in their team's performance with public broadcaster NOS drawing7.8 million total viewers across all its platforms - out which6.9 were via linear television alone.

Similarly in France who lost to Spain, the match drew an average of 16.12 million viewers on TF1, making it the highest for a broadcast in 2024 in the country. The total number of viewers is expected to be even higher once co-broadcaster BeIN Sports releases its figures.

As Spain and England prepare to face off in Berlin for the Euro 2024 final, both countries are anticipating record-breaking viewership numbers. ITV expects over 30 million viewers tuning into this historic match. England will be seeking their first-ever victory in this competition while Spain will be aiming for their fourth triumph. Regardless of who lifts the trophy, one thing is certain - millions around Europe will be watching with bated breath.
