Matches previously broadcast on Football TV, iFollow and other live streaming services to be cut off

Hot on the heels of the Premier League and the English FA, the EFL has confirmed that it is also suspending its agreement with Russian broadcasters. This means that fixtures from the Championship, League One, League Two, the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy will no longer be available to viewers inside the country.

The move comes in response to Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, as the sporting world unites against Russian aggression.

On its website, the EFL made this statement:

"Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in the region, the EFL has suspended the broadcast feeds of its matches in the Russian Federation."

"Access to the EFL’s iFollow service and other club streaming services have also been withdrawn in the territory."

"Echoing the views of the Premier League and other organisations around the world, the EFL remains deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict. As has been demonstrated at EFL grounds around the country, ‘Football Stands Together’ with the people of Ukraine and all those impacted."

The EFL added that it will be making a donation to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) and encouraged fans to make a donation to the organisation at the bottom of its statement.

The details of the agreement between Football TV and the EFL are unknown but the deal which the Premier League has terminated with its partner Okko Sport was said to be worth around $8.2m.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has confirmed that the Russian Federation has filed appeals related to the banning of Russian clubs and the Russian national team from international tournaments. A decision from CAS on that is expected in the coming days.

It is not known what legal ramifications there could be for the Premier League, FA and EFL for terminating those TV rights contracts, but the determination of the football and sporting community as a whole seems to be to utterly cut ties with the Russian Federation at all costs.
