Global sports subscription platform, DAZN, has secured the global highlights rights to the Spanish men's top-tier soccer league, LaLiga. This move comes as part of a two-year agreement that was made public on August 15. Concurrently, pay-TV giant Sky has also announced a deal for LaLiga highlights in the UK.
DAZN will provide short highlights of every LaLiga match from the 2025-26 and 2026-27 campaigns. The streaming heavyweight will make post-game action from the 2025-26 season available free-to-air worldwide. The season kicks off with Girona taking on Rayo Vallecano. In addition to this new agreement, DAZN already covers LaLiga domestically (alongside Movistar), through a deal running through till 2026-27. The streaming service also holds rights in territories including Germany, Italy, and Japan.
As part of the deal between DAZN and the Spanish league, comprising twenty teams, an official LaLiga channel will be launched on DAZN. This channel will feature match highlights and clips along with other editorial content.
Distribution of media rights in UK & Ireland
Earlier this month, there was an announcement regarding distribution of media rights for La Liga in UK and Ireland. OTT heavyweight Disney+ joined incumbent rightsholder Premier Sports as part of the competition’s broadcast mix for the upcoming cycle.
The three-year deal allows Disney to showcase one game per gameweek (Saturday evenings) exclusively throughout each season while Premier Sports continues as primary broadcaster showing over 340 domestic fixtures per season on its own linear and OTT platforms.
Javier Tebas, LaLiga president, said:
"DAZN’s platform and global reach make it an ideal home for our content, and we look forward to working together to engage millions of football fans with the best of LaLiga.”
Disney replaces ITV which had shown a handful games each year over past three campaigns.
Sky's deal for UK highlights
Sky Sports has unveiled a deal for LaLiga highlights in the UK, which will run through the 2027-28 campaign. Sky Sports will showcase match highlights from each game, along with "live in-game action and the best moments from each match round."
The Spanish league this coming season will feature multiple high-profile England national team players including Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marcus Rashford.
These new agreements mark a significant shift in sports broadcasting rights. With DAZN's global coverage of LaLiga and Sky's UK rights acquisition, fans worldwide can look forward to more comprehensive coverage of their favourite soccer league. The inclusion of Disney+ into the mix also indicates an increasing trend towards OTT platforms as major players in sports broadcasting.
