BBC Sport recently temporarily suspended Gary Lineker from their famous Match of the Day show
Gary Lineker's name has been in the news a lot lately following his row with BBC. The former English footballer was suspended from their famous Match of the Day show after Lineker criticized the new UK Government's asylum policy by comparing it to Germany's policy during the 1930s.
Gary Lineker wrote on social media criticizing policy, "There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries.
"This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the ’30s."
The BBC responded by releasing a statement deciding to temporarily remove Gary Lineker from the MOTD show.
BBC said, "The BBC has been in extensive discussions with Gary and his team in recent days. We have said that we consider his recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines.
"The BBC has decided that he will step back from presenting Match of the Day until we've got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media.
"When it comes to leading our football and sports coverage, Gary is second to none.
"We have never said that Gary should be an opinion free zone, or that he can't have a view on issues that matter to him, but we have said that he should keep well away from taking sides on party political issues or political controversies".
Meanwhile, another key member MOTD show and Lineker's friend, Ian Wright, temporarily stepped down in response to BBC's controversial decision, causing chaos in the football community.
Gary Lineker could be on his way back to BT Sport
This controversial move by BBC Sports instantly caused anger throughout the world, and as a result, other competitors are looking to pounce on the situation and lure legendary figure, Gary Lineker to their setup.
According to reports, BT Sport is one of the top contenders for Gary Lineker's services next season. Lineker has worked for BT Sport in the past, which supports rumours that he will return.
The signing of Gary Lineker could be a statement from BT Sport who are looking to stake their claim as the leading broadcaster in the UK. From July 2023, the UK channel will be rebranded as TNT Sports after signing a joint venture agreement with Warner Brothers Discovery.
