The Manchester United captain admitted he needs to score goals

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has openly admitted to his subpar performance this season. The Portugal midfielder has been under fire for a slow start in the 2024/25 campaign and is looking forward to switching focus to the national team.

Fernandes' form this season has fallen well short of expectations. He hasn't scored a goal for his club since April, leading to significant criticism from supporters. His role in Manchester United's record-breakingly poor start to the season has not gone unnoticed. The 30-year-old midfielder's performance was further marred by red cards shown in back-to-back games before the international break. Although one of these was rescinded following a club appeal, it did little to alleviate concerns about his form.

Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, said:

"It's about improving as soon as I get there [Manchester], Making the goals appear again because I'm a midfielder that scores a lot of goals and has over the years always shown a very high level of goals.

"I have to live up to those expectations and to my standards. What I've been doing is not at all what I want for this season because I haven't scored at the club yet. I hope that once I get there, I can score and help my club get back to winning ways and be at a good level."

A chance with Portugal National Team

Despite the challenges faced at Manchester United, Fernandes is relishing an opportunity that lies ahead - representing his country during the October international break. This chance provides him with an avenue not only for redemption but also for refreshing his thoughts away from club football. Fernandes expressed enthusiasm about grasping this opportunity with open arms and shifting attention towards contributing positively towards Portugal matches.

Bruno Fernandes added:

"It's not a positive moment, We're not winning games and the national team space is completely different. I've felt very at ease, the dynamics are very good. I'm in my country, I speak my language and I have better food. I have demonstrated a good level in the national team.

"It's a space where I feel good and I feel like I can enjoy my football at a very high level, due to the dynamics we have and the quality I have at my side."

While Bruno Fernandes' current form may be disappointing for both himself and fans alike, there is hope that time spent focusing on national duties could provide much-needed rejuvenation. As sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts watch closely, it will be interesting how he leverages this opportunity to turn around his season.
