Optus Sport Business will now distribute three BeIN Sports channels to its subscribers

The international sports broadcaster, BeIN Sports, has announced a new partnership with Optus Sport, the sports broadcasting arm of Singtel-owned telecommunications giant. This collaboration aims to expand the reach of BeIN Sports in Australia by broadcasting at commercial venues across the country.

Optus Sport Business' streaming solution will distribute three BeIN Sports channels to its subscribers. These channels will be broadcasted at various commercial venues including pubs, clubs and other out-of-home establishments across Australia.

This partnership is set to enhance Optus Sport Business’ offerings by incorporating BeIN’s full array of sports rights in the country. The primary focus will be on European soccer which includes Italy’s top-flight Serie A, Spain’s LaLiga, England’s Carabao Cup matches and lower tiers of English Football League.

Additional offerings

In addition to soccer coverage, this partnership also brings tennis from ATP and WTA tours as part of its offering. As per reports, BeIN holds some rights to these tours which would now be accessible through Optus' platform.

John Armitage, Director for distribution and Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand at BeIN Sports expressed his excitement about this new venture stating that it comes at an important time for both companies.

John Armitage, Director for distribution for Australia and New Zealand at BeIN Sports, said:

“We understand that the fragmentation of sports rights in this market can be challenging for venues. Through this partnership, we are providing a streamlined, centralized solution that makes it easier for venues to offer more live sport to their patrons.

“By prioritizing the fan experience, we’re ensuring that [soccer] and tennis enthusiasts can enjoy unforgettable moments together in their favorite venues. With Optus Sport, we look forward to enhancing in-venue experiences and driving increased foot traffic into our venue partners.”

Potential sale of Optus Sport

This development comes amidst reports that SingTel is considering selling off Optus Sport to Nine Entertainment media company. If this deal goes through it could potentially lead to a merger between Optus Sport and Nine's Stan Sport offering.

Currently exclusive streaming home for English Premier League in Australia until 2027-28 season along with Women's Super League till 2024-25 campaign are under the portfolio of Optus sport. It also holds rights over Japan's J-League, South Korea's K League and North America's National Women's Soccer League. Stan Sports, on the other hand, has a more diversified portfolio. It includes rights to rugby union’s English Premiership, Rugby Championship, SVNS, tennis’ Davis Cup and motor racing’s Formula E among others.

This partnership between BeIN Sports and Optus Sport is set to bring a wider range of sports coverage to Australian audiences. The collaboration not only expands the reach of BeIN in Australia but also enhances the offerings of Optus Sport Business by incorporating an array of sports rights held by BeIN.
